Air Force Veterans

Mesothelioma in Air Force veterans could have been prevented. Asbestos’ danger was well known prior to the 1970s – yet right up until the phase-out of asbestos, practically every facility and aircraft in the Air Force inventory contained asbestos in some form.

From wiring to jet turbines to computer centers to wall, ceiling, and floor insulation, Air Force facilities used asbestos liberally, making exposure to asbestos a practical certainty for airmen. Asbestos-wrapped electrical wiring, asbestos-cement siding, and asbestos-laden shingles were widely used in the construction of base buildings, hangars, and radar stations. Computer centers, with their heavy electrical setups and massive air conditioning systems, were hotbeds of asbestos.

And the sad story of Air Force asbestos exposure does not include the asbestos used in truck and airplane brakes, aircraft electricals, avionics, and the aircrafts themselves.

If you are an Air Force veteran who served prior to 1980 and later developed mesothelioma, you were almost certainly exposed to asbestos during your service. Mesothelioma in Air Force veterans is usually the result of negligence by authority.
